             abstract = "The potato is now the staple food of two thirds of world 
                         population and this importance justifies the large amount of 
                         research into new technologies and management practices, new 
                         varieties suitable and costeffective and especially its planning 
                         at the regional level for the formulation of public policies 
                         agriculture, balance of trade, environment, public health and 
                         investment in infrastructure. This paper aims to analyze the 
                         spatial dynamics of regional potato cultivation at the state of 
                         Minas Gerais in the period of 1960 to 2008 and its prospects, 
                         applying spatial analysis procedures that imply the probability of 
                         occurrence and the dependence of events in time series. In this 
                         work GIS software ArcGIS 9.3® and its spatial analysis 
                         geostatistical tools were used in applying the method of 
                         interpolation by kriging and multivariate Gaussian. Maps were 
                         produced by using the single time and continuous field level 
                         isoplethic and trend surface. The results in displacement of Minas 
                         Gerais production over the period in east-west direction were Zona 
                         da Mata, Metal{\'u}rgica, Campo das Vertentes to the Southern of 
                         Minas and to the Alto S{\~a}o Francisco, Tri{\^a}ngulo and Alto 
                         Parana{\'{\i}}ba. On a national scale this vector orientation 
                         may indicate the displacement of production to new regions such as 
                         the state of Goi{\'a}s and changes in potato production chain.",
